Something I’ve never expressed much through my blog are some of the celebrities that I find myself slightly obsessed with. I’ve decided to start paying tribute to some of the beautiful women that I find completely statuesque and totally timeless. I figured that who better to start this regular segment with than the enterprise herself, Kim Kardashian. Kim has really made a name for herself and has done nearly everything in the book. In addition to the DASH clothing stores — she’s released her own perfume, sunless tanner, an autobiography, Quick Trim weight loss supplements, Perfect Skin skincare, a workout DVD series, her own jewelry collection… including starring in reality shows Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Kourtney & Kim Take New York, appearing on Dancing With The Stars and other movies and television shows. The list goes on and on!
It’s really admirable that she’s done so much and takes advantage of any opportunity. I think a big reason Kim was on my mind to feature in this first post was that her debut single, “Jam,” that I first heard on December 31st, 2010 — officially debuted yesterday. I admit, she’s no Mariah or Whitney… But the ratings and reviews she’s received shocked me. People can be so critical and harsh! She already admitted she was out of her comfort zone and was petrified. It’s not like she’s trying to release classic ballads, people! It’s actually a catchy song and I could totally see people dancing to it in the clubs. In addition to that, half of the proceeds made from the song are donated to a cancer foundation, due to the fact her father as well as The Dream’s parents passed away from cancer. Who can hate on that? It was simple a project she was presented, and just like everything else — she jumped at an amazing opportunity.
My real, personal opinion? Sure, she doesn’t have a phenomenal voice… But I can also say she was on key and was able to hit the notes she needed to. Yeah, it was auto tuned. If T-Pain or Kanye West can use it, what makes it wrong for her to do so? She has a nice speaking voice, so essentially her singing voice was just as sweet. It kind of reminded me of the singer Cassie! It’s not the best song in the world, but I wouldn’t say the debut single was, “God awful” or “unbearable” like everyone is making it out to be. Just like any other situation, the haters will always hate. People will talk and people will continue to feed her growing status as a celebutante socialite. If there’s one thing that Kim has taught us, it’s that bad publicity is STILL publicity. Hello? Don’t act like you haven’t seen the sex tape. ;)
