“Let’s go out to eat today,” he said nonchalantly. He told me to get ready in 30 minutes — so I tied up my hair, dabbed on some concealer, and put on some eyeliner on my top lids. We then drove farther than usual for a quick bite to eat, so when I asked where we were even headed, he claimed he wanted to take me to this burger place he recently tried. Oblivious and gullable, I believed him. To my surprise, we pulled up in front of my favorite restaurant — which he had originally introduced me to on our very first date in April 2009, which is where he also took me when he asked me to officially be his girlfriend in September 2010. I was already excited to be there as it was! I couldn’t wait to eat!And we ate. A lot. I couldn’t have been happier, since we hadn’t been there since valentine’s day. We were winding down, getting really full, and I had just ordered creme brulee for dessert… when he said, “Hey, look at this thing I got in the mail today.” I automatically thought it was going to be a coupon, since he wouldn’t ordinarily spend a hundred dollars on a random casual late lunch. To my surprise, it was a little note — basically saying he wanted us to pick things back up again. I was already happy at that point. But as I reached the end, which read, “I love you,” I noticed that something was engraved onto the paper at the very bottom: TIFFANY & CO. My heart stopped. I turned to look at him, and he pulled out a teal box wrapped with a white ribbon. Before I could even react, he smiled and said, “Will you be my girlfriend again?” And thus began the end of our separation since April, and the beginning of us starting over… Not that we were ever really apart to begin with. <3
